Cruz Campo's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase raw material and double its plant processing capacity in Jayanca, Peru to meet orders for this year’s superfood harvest.

Cruz Campo's story

Cruz Campo processes and commercializes superfoods from a network of 50+ smallholder farmers in the Peruvian Andes, and then sells them in international markets. Problem: Peruvian Smallholder farmers traditionally rely on farming one or two local crops for survival, often making them vulnerable to market changes for these products. These farmers lack the resources, infrastructure and access to information that would enable them to leverage crop diversification as a reliable revenue stream and a way out of the cycle of poverty. Solution: Cruz Campo trains and supports smallholder farmers to incorporate superfood crops (including goldenberry, yacon, mango, cacao and lucuma), diversify their sources of revenue (through multiple crops) and obtain organic certifications to access international markets. Use of loan: A loan of $25,000 will be catalytic in providing working capital to complete current orders and pay for the needed improvements to the production facility in Jayanca. This loan will specifically pay for the construction of a new washing and peeling area so that Cruz Campo can integrate their value chain and complete final processing in-house, allowing them to capture more margin. With the machinery at full capacity, more than 40 additional families will be directly supported as more raw material will need to be sourced and processed. The new washing and peeling stations will also provide an additional 20 dignified jobs to women, most of whom are single mothers, with the expectation that this number will increase by 70% over the next 2 years.
