Jennifer's story

I grew up in the beautiful town of Guttenberg, Iowa and loved the beautiful town but never thought I would move back home since the jobs for scientists are pretty much non-existent. I enjoyed working as a scientist throughout my career but struggled to find a position that fit me and the employer after a layoff. After 6 months of unemployment, I decided to take control of our future and my husband and I decided to open our own restaurant. Over the next year, I wrote multiple business plans as we sought to find a way to make our dream a reality, I never dreamed it would bring me back to my beautiful hometown. In June of 2018 Bootleggers of Millville became ours and we have built it into a full service restaurant and bar with a growing client base. My husband has grown up in the business and is an amazing chef so he runs the back of the house and strives to provide the highest quality food with the homemade touch. I run the front of the house and manage the business side, marketing, HR, accounting, etc. My father is also a part owner and we could not have made this restaurant happen without him. Our dream is to make this restaurant a local staple, we hope to be a thriving part of our rural community for a long time and we also really want to expand our catering services over the next few years.
