Shifurah's Group's story

Shifurah's Group is comprised of three hardworking women. Shifurah is 19 years old and lives in the town of Mbarara in the Mbarara region of Uganda. For the past four years, Shifurah has been working hard to manage her clothing sales business, where she sells clothes.

To help expand her business, Shifurah has requested a share of 3,100,000 Ugandan shillings (UGX) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more clothes to sell, and will help Shifurah to generate greater profits. The business will expand and therefore Shifurah will be able to meet the basic needs at home, thereby improving their standard of living. Shifurah hopes that in the future she will be able to open a boutique.

Shifurah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
