Phoebe's story

TastyTowne LLC's founders, PJ and Susan, are both hometown residents of Tulsa, OK. We have felt incredibly lucky to have started our business in a town so supportive of small business entrepreneurship. We've been able to take advantage of our city and region's vast network of small-business support organizations to gain the material and educational resources to get our business off the ground. We received an initial Kiva loan in 2017 that allowed us to purchase ingredients and packaging to begin to offer product for sale as a Home Bakery. We received mentorship through SCORE Tulsa that allowed us to develop our market strategy and understand our product value proposition. We entered Tulsa StartUp Series 2018 and won first in our category and third overall for the contest, which provided funding that would allow us to scale up from Home Bakery to commercial kitchen. We were able to scale up to commercial kitchen operations thanks to our participation in the Kitchen 66 Launch Program, which gave us access to the production facilities and sales outlets to increase our production and market. And we've been able to pre-test our products' ability to scale-up for mass production thanks to our work with the Food and Agricultural Product Center and Oklahoma State University. We know we are incredibly lucky to have had access to all these amazing resources in our community, and we intend to continue to work with these mentors and organizations as we go forward.
