Karina Vanessa's story

Karina Vanessa is a 28-year-old merchant who lives in the city of Barranquilla with her spouse and three children. This businesswoman arrived in Colombia 5 years ago, previously she lived in the country of Venezuela.

Her business idea came from the necessity of being able to get her children ahead and being able to support her family. She began by taking a beauty course. Once she finished it, she decided to offer manicure and pedicure services in the home. With time, she began to generate income and decided to sell calls and cell phone top-ups from her house.

Today, this businesswoman has a large display case where she offers various products such as beauty accessories, head accessories, minutes, top-ups, sim cards, and a computer to be used by people in the community who want to look something up or do work. To date, these businesses have allowed her to have economic stability, and to improve her lifestyle and that of her family.

Currently, she is applying for her first Kiva loan, with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. resources which she will invest in the purchase of a desktop computer, chargers, USB cables, notebooks, reams of paper, erasers, scissors, staplers, folders, poster board, general paper goods, etc.
