Mary's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy quality farming inputs such as good certified and high-quality fertilizers to improve her crop farm.

Mary's story

The beautiful and energetic woman pictured above is Mary (pictured with a loan officer above). She is courteous, devoted, responsible and hardworking. She is 59 years old and earns a living by raising animals and crops. Mary started practicing mixed farming a few years ago in order to meet the rising costs of living. On her farm, she grows maize and also keeps dairy cows. She has gained so much experience during her years of work.

Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the pillar of agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizers and seeds allocated by the government are way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in input availability than earlier before.

Although Mary makes revenue from tea farming, not everything has been easy for this modest and productive mother. Her tea farm has not been producing such a large harvest lately, due to a lack of fertilizer. That is why Mary is taking out this loan to buy quality farming inputs such as good certified and high-quality fertilizers to improve her tea farm.

With this loan, she will be assured of a good tea harvest. Together with her family, Mary is very thankful for your warm consideration and help as you plan to close the year on a lending note.
