Sonia Esther's story

Sonia Esther is a 48-year-old micro-entrepreneur who lives in the municipality of Soledad with her husband and son. This entrepreneur launched her business buying and selling scrap by chance. She and her husband used to sell lunches in one area of the city. Their customers included many people who recycled, and they suggested bartering: she would give them lunch, and they would give her recyclable materials in exchange. That is how she learned this trade.

The business operates as a result of that exchange. This work has been very beneficial and profitable for Sonia, enabling her to buy her house nine years ago while also conserving natural resources. Her main suppliers are rickshaw drivers, recyclers, and passers-by in the area. Her main customers are businesses, industries, and intermediaries who buy recycled materials wholesale.

Sonia offers her customers recycled products including paper, cardboard paste, iron, scrap, etc. She is now applying for her first Kiva loan from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo to invest it in the purchase of recyclable materials such as PETs (recyclable containers), copper, aluminum, bronze, plastics (tanks, chairs), iron, paper products (books, paper, planners), etc. Sonia needs an injection of capital to strengthen and capitalize her business plan in order to generate a higher income. Support her in her loan; it will be a success.
