A loan helped to buy more merchandise to stock the business with shoes and sneakers.

Gs Torre 39 Group's story

Marie is a Haitian woman who now lives in the Dominican Republic with her husband and three children. She came to the country 17 years ago, escaping the economic situation in Haiti and looking for a better life. There are many jobs in the informal sector in the Dominican Republic. That's what Marie found, and she started her own business selling shoes.

Although many immigrants can flee from poverty in Haiti, they still encounter difficulties and live in low-income communities. This is the reason why people help each other with financial resources. The downside, however, is that people often lend money with very high interest rates. That's why Marie is requesting a loan through Kiva.

With this loan she plans to purchase more merchandise to stock her business with shoes and sneakers. By having more merchandise, she can increase her customer base and sell good quality products at good prices without using her family's money or taking a loan which will leave her in more debt.

To Marie, a loan means more than a loan. It's an opportunity to overcome poverty and the circumstances that come with being a Haitian living in a foreign country. It will also allow her to succeed for her herself and for her family.
