Martha's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy seeds and increase her farming so that she can provide a better life for her children.

Martha's story

Martha, a 53-year-old mom of 4, is a very hardworking person. Thanks to her daily effort, she has managed to get her 4 children ahead, providing them with a good-quality education. She is from a remote village in the Kenyenya area of Kenya. Her primary sources of income are crops and animal farming. Martha also gets some income from a personal business. She is content with the farming way of life, but she never had a formal education or formal employment.

The Kenyenya area is favorable for farming, and that is why she is seeking a loan to buy seeds in order to reap maximum profits and increase her farming business. Being a woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially the Kenyenya area, is very challenging. But Martha feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like her. Her goal is to improve her living conditions and secure the future of her children, who are in school. Her biggest dreams are to be able to support her family by herself, to become independent, and to buy a home.
