Pauline's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizer, that will help improve her tea productivity.

Pauline's story

Pauline is a 67-year-old married mom of four, is pictured plucking her tea. Since she was a girl, she has learned to do all of the tasks involved in farming, thanks to her parents' teaching. She is a poor smallholder farmer who does not have access to credit facilities and is based in Nyamira, Kenya, a town near lake Victoria (a major tourist attraction site in Africa).

Pauline has been a farmer for several years. She grows tea crops. She also engages in small businesses on the side whenever an opportunity crosses her path. Despite the rapid fluctuation of prices in the market, she is very passionate and optimistic about the future of farming in Kenya.

Pauline is seeking a loan to expand her tea crop farm. She intends to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizer, that will help to improve her tea productivity and thus, her living conditions.

This move is quite a big deal for her. With a loan, she seeks to continue growing a variety of crops, but on a greater scale. The demand for crops and other greens in Nyamira and other parts of the country is very high.

In the long run, with increased income, Pauline will finally be able to satisfy her family’s basic needs.
