Josphine's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer and seeds to grow more crops to help a mom improve her life and create hope this holiday season.

Josphine's story

Josphine, a 45-year-old mom of five and pictured with one of her children, is a hardworking mom from a remote village in the Eldoret area of Kenya. Thanks to her daily efforts, she has managed to give her children a good start by providing them with a high-quality education. Josphine has a farm where she grows crops and raises livestock; she also earns some income from a personal business. She never had a formal education and is content with the farming lifestyle.

The Eldoret area is a favorable one for farming. She is seeking a 90,000 KES loan through Kiva's field partner, Juhudi Kilimo, to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer and seeds to enable her to grow more crops, reap maximum profits, and increase her business.

Being a woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially around her remote village, is very challenging, but Josphine feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like herself. She is always working to improve her family’s living conditions, and her biggest dreams are to become independent and support her family.
