Santa Cruz Group's story
Brenda's husband is a farm worker. Because of the lingering drought, farmers are facing increased challenges.
Brenda is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank Group “Santa Cruz,” located in the department/state of Solola. There are 6 other women in her group. Some of them sell personal care products (via catalogue sales), fish, chicken by the pound, and traditional textiles. Others have stands where they sell snack foods or have a convenience store. Most have little or no formal education. Brenda is exceptional because she was able to attend school through the 8th grade. At their monthly meetings, the ladies participate in educational trainings on topics drawn from 4 areas: business, health, family, and women. Brenda shares that she found the most helpful topics to be managing her money, making prompt payments, and being responsible. Every other month, the women have access to health care services. Friendship Bridge calls the combination of loans, education, and health care “Microcredit Plus.”
Brenda and her friends send their gratitude to Kiva investors. Thank you!
