Mujeres El Esfuerzo Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy inventory for her store, as well as vegetables, meat, and spices to make snack foods to sell.

Mujeres El Esfuerzo Group's story

Small neighborhood convenience stores or “tiendas de consumo diario” are found everywhere in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. Yeimi is 22 years old, single, and studied accounting. She is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres El Esfuerzo” who has her own store. Four days each week, she also prepares and sells delicious regional snack foods or “refacciones” from the home that she shares with her parents and siblings. Yeimi is currently requesting her third Kiva loan that she will use to buy inventory for her store, as well as vegetables, meat, and spices for her “refacciones”.

There are seven Maya Mam ladies in the Trust Bank who live in the department/state of Quetzaltenango. They have convenience stores, as well as businesses selling fresh corn tortillas and “refacciones”. The women learn to manage their businesses effectively at their monthly educational trainings. They learn about planning, budgeting, investing and savings. Yeimi points out that she found the topic of the dangers of over-indebtedness especially important. The ladies also learn about health, hygiene, nutrition, and self esteem. Every other month, they have access to basic health care services. Friendship Bridge calls this effective combination of loans, education and health care “Microcredit Plus”.

Kiva investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, are very important in the lives of Yeimi and her friends. Thank you to each of you for generously funding their loans!
