Mujeres Sembradoras Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy more high quality “fajas” and thread.

Mujeres Sembradoras Group's story

Eight years ago, 47 year old Tomasa became a widow and was left with the huge responsibility of raising 6 children. She became a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank Mujeres Sembradoras and found support, loans, educational training and most recently health care services. Her children are now over the age of 13 and each has a 6th grade education. Tomasa was able to fund their studies with her traditional textile business weaving and embroidering belts called fajas. She employs 3 ladies that help her fill orders. Tomasa is very well known in the textile market. Her fajas are filled with flowers, birds and fauna. She is able to produce 12 fajas each month. In order to increase her inventory, Tomasa is requesting her 3rd Kiva loan to buy more high quality fajas and thread.

There are 8 Maya K’iche ladies in the group who have an average of 2 years of formal education. They continue to learn in their monthly educational training about relevant topics like business management practices, health, hygiene, nutrition and self esteem. Every other month, the women have access to basic health care services and get PAP smears, blood pressure checks and other exams. The combination of loans, education and health care services is called Microcredit Plus.

KIVA investors who fund loans for women like Tomasa and her friends are held in very high regard. Thank you to each of you for your kindness!
