A loan helped to buy oil, chicken, firewood, and cooking pots.

Mujeres Paulenas Group's story

The president of the Communal Bank of Friendship Bridge- "Women Pulenas" - is Marcela, aged 42. She is married and a mother of 6 children, all over 12 years of age. Marcela helps keep her home by means of a cart where she prepares and sells fried chicken. She is happy because, thanks to the income, she has been able to assist her husband with the education expenses of her children. Three of her children have received their teacher's diploma, while her younger children are studying in primary school. With the first Kiva loan, Marcela would like to buy oil, chicken, firewood, and cooking pots.

There are 10 Maya Tzutuhil women in the communal bank who live on the shores of Lake Atitlan, in the Department / State of Sololá. They have fried chicken carts and are mostly weavers of beautiful “huipiles” or typical blouses. These women understand the importance of acquiring knowledge about business, health, nutrition, hygiene, and how to empower themselves. They learn about these topics in the monthly meetings at the communal bank. An institution facilitator uses role play, games, images, and shares important information. Every 2 months, women can access basic healthcare services. Puente de Amistad calls the useful combination of loans, education, and health services "Microcredit Plus".

It would be impossible for these women to get a loan. Thank you, Kiva lenders, for your kindness and generosity in financing these much-needed loans!
