A loan helped to invest in a bulk purchase of alpaca wool.

Maria's story

Maria is an artisan from Peru who specializes in handcrafted Andean alpaca apparel and accessories. She would like to invest in a bulk purchase of alpaca wool.

Maria has been selling through NOVICA since 2015. This is her story:

"My name is Maria and I was born in Cusco, Peru, in 1950. As a girl, I was interested in the handwoven blanket and sashes that my mother created. The main thing that attracted me was to carry our ancestors' traditions and transmit our history through our colors and motifs. My inspiration comes from our history of Inca weavings, which is one of the oldest textile traditions of the Andes and was one of the most highly developed. Inca textiles are characterized by their their geometric patterns and their finely developed techniques. Their tapestries and feathered cloaks are legendary. Inca art shows an extraordinary sense of symmetry, which is reflected in the neatly organized figures."

"I am very happy to receive this loan. I will use the funds to prepare new inventory and design new products."
