Asina's story

Asina is 16 years old and lives in the town of GABA in the Makindye region of Uganda. For the past 2 years, Asina has been working hard to manage her craft business, which does crafts like bracelets, baskets.

To help expand her business, Asina has requested a loan of 500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more craft materials for making the baskets, bracelets for resale, and will help Asina to generate greater profits and improving family's standards of living with enough basic needs . Asina hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land and build a big house for her family.

Asina is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
