Chanthan's story

Chanthan is aged 49 and a widowed woman with two children. Both of her children are working in a factory. She manages a business planting and harvesting rice twice a year on her own land, which located in Svay Rieng province. After she harvested rice from rice field, she always sold the rice to the local market. She earns approximately of only $5 per day and it's very barely enough to support her family's daily costs. She works very hard to improve her living conditions.

Due to the shortage of her finances, Chanthan has applied for a loan in the amount of USD 1,000 to build a kitchen for her family's members. By using this loan, she can give her family a good environment, sanitation and protect them from disease.

She thanks lenders for contributing their own money in a program like Kiva via its partner, HKL, to help low-income people gain access to water and sanitation. For this kind of loan product, HKL has provided him a special interest rate than its general products.
