A loan helped to buy poultry of a quality breed, so that she can meet the overwhelming demand for poultry products in her village and get additional income.

Sellah's story

Sellah, 47, is a mother dreaming of future prosperity. She is a caring mother and a rural smallholder farmer from the Nandihills area of Kenya. Her struggles from poverty make her an icon of success to many women in her remote village. Sellah attributes her success to her parents, who introduced her to farming. Her primary sources of income have been milk, maize and poultry. She sells her produce to the nearby market and also to neighbors. Through agriculture, she has made her life meaningful, and she feels she is now deriving maximum pleasure from it.

The Nandihills area is very populated, and the demand for poultry products and eggs is very high. Like many farmers from her region, she finds poultry farming very enjoyable. Her biggest challenge, however, is meeting the demand, which is really high. She lacks funds to increase her poultry farming, so she is seeking a loan of 60,000 KES to buy poultry. As a result of the loan, she will sell eggs and poultry products to her neighbors and to the local market. This will translate into an increased profit and an improved income level. Kindly and humbly help this hardworking woman realize her dream!
