Irene's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer to grow more crops and help a mother improve her life.

Irene's story

Irene, the 42-year-old mother of 3 school-going children, is a hardworking woman from a remote village in the Litein area of Kenya. Thanks to her daily efforts, she has managed to give her children a good start by providing them with a high-quality education.

She has a farm where she grows different crops and raises livestock. She also earns some income from a personal business. She never had a formal education and is content with the farming lifestyle. The Litein area is a favorable one for farming.

Irene is seeking a 130,000 KES loan through Kiva's field partner Juhudi Kilimo to buy farm inputs such as fertilizers to enable her to grow more crops, reap maximum profits, and expand her farming business.

It is difficult for women in Kenya to access funds, especially around her remote village, but Irene feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like herself.

She is always working to improve her family’s living conditions. Her biggest dreams are to become independent and to support her family.
