Rehema's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy rice, sugar and flour.

Rehema's story

Rehema is 20 years old and lives in the town of Kaliro in the Iganga region of Uganda. She is married and has 3 children, 2 of whom are currently in school. For the past 4 years, Rehema has been working hard to manage her shop, which sells flour, sugar, rice, soap, and salt.

To help expand her business, Rehema has requested a loan of 1,250,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy rice, sugar and flour, and will help Rehema to generate greater profits. Rehema will use the profits of her business to assist her husband in paying school fees for their children, buy personal items like clothes, pay house bills, and provide for the family's basic needs (like food), thereby improving their standard of living. Rehema hopes that in the future she will be able to buy goats to rear.

Rehema is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
