Marjorie's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to build a handicraft business to support her remote community in the Trobriand Islands, Papua New Guinea.
Marjorie splits her time between Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, and her home village on the Trobriand Islands, a remote area of Papua New Guinea. Marjorie has established a strong relationship with the weaving communities in Trobriand. She is currently helping the local female-run communities to create handmade weaved products. Their vision is to provide economic and social development for the community and the female leaders based there. Marjorie has been accepted into the Real Impact Accelerator program and through this opportunity, she will get the support to build her weaving business by developing new products using the traditional skills of her weavers. Real Impact collaborates with international designers to assist with product design that will help Marjorie access new markets but to support this work, she needs a working capital loan. The new products will show how product design and the use of traditional skills can assist in bringing economic opportunity to Marjorie's community, who currently have few other means to earn income. With support from Kiva lenders, Real Impact can develop female-led artisan communities, protect the heritage of traditional skills and develop new products to enable market access.
