02 Soop Ous Group's story

This group was created in November 2009 and is composed of dynamic, unified women united by links of parenting or being neighbours. The sale of fabric, outfits, ice cream and fruit juice remains the principal group activity.
Oumou, standing at the right of the photo with her hand raised, is the representative of the group. She is 48 years old, married and has two daughters, the youngest of which is 29. With the loan, she will buy fabric, pre-sewn outfits, mens' shirts by the dozen, bags of baobab fruit, dried redcurrants and sugar and some sachets and ingredients to make juice. She resells in the neighbourhood and surrounding areas but also makes daily repayments towards her loan. Stocking up is done in the capital for fabric, outfits and shirts and at the local markets for all that is needed for making juice.
She has a loyal customer base and can capitalise on several years of experience in the business.
The profits from the business will allow her to boost her savings, pay the interest, cover her family needs for food and health and following up the repair of her house, part of which she has put up for rent.
