A loan helped an immigrant business owner to follow in the footsteps of his father, a clothing store owner in Bamako, Mali.
Mamadou's story
I am new to Pittsburgh, but so far I feel more comfortable here than anywhere else I've lived. People are so welcoming and nice. I knew this was a great place when I accidentally drove the wrong way down a one-way street and a police officer nicely let me know, rather than give me a ticket, as they would have when I lived in New York City. Because of this, I am even more motivated to stay here and become part of the community.
Growing up, my dad owned a clothing business in Bamako, Mali and did very well. He had never studied business, so I thought that if I could learn from him and get a business degree, I could be even more successful. For that reason, I worked in his story while I went to Lionmba University and got a degree in business. I finally opened my own business after I moved to the United States.
