A loan helped to buy fertilizers.

Resty's Group's story

Resty's group is comprised of two hardworking women. Resty is 18 years old and lives in the town of Kinoni in the Mbarara region of Uganda. For the past three years, Resty has been working hard to manage her farming business in which she sells green bananas, maize and beans.

To help expand her business, Resty has requested a share of 1,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy fertilizers and will help Resty to generate greater profits. The profits of the business will enable Resty to buy for herself personal items like clothes and shoes, pay house bills and provide basic needs for the family like food, thereby improving their standard of living. Resty hopes that in the future, she will be able to buy more cows.

Resty is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
