Hellen's Group's story
Hellen's group is comprised of 3 hard working women. Hellen is 24 years old and lives in the town of Kasese in the Kasese region of Uganda. She is Married and has 2 children who are all currently in school. For the past 5 years, Hellen has been working hard to manage her Boutique, which sells all kinds of adult clothes and shoes. To help expand her business, Hellen has requested a share of a loan of 2,740,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase tops, trousers, skirts and shoes for sale, and will help Hellen to generate greater profits and manage to pay some of the house bills and basic needs for the family. Hellen hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land and build a house for her family. Hellen is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
