Joanita's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy and stock more drugs and baby syrup to sell at her convenient store.

Joanita's story

Joanita is 23-years-old and lives in the town of Nakifuma in the Kasangati region of Uganda. She has one child. For the past 4 years, Joanita has been working hard to manage her pharmacy, which sells drugs for human consumption.

To help expand her business, Joanita has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy and stock more drugs and baby syrups to sell at her convenient store, and will help Joanita to generate greater profits and manage to buy food for her family. Joanita hopes that in the future she will be able to plan to go back to school for studies and make a good professional clinic.

Joanita is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
