Maforay Village, , Sierra Leone / Agriculture

Women 4 Women Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to pay for improved seed, organic inputs and tractor rental which will allow these farmers to escape subsistence by farming a larger area with a higher yield.

Women 4 Women Group's story

Sallay K (1st on left), featured borrower of Women 4 Women Group , is a Master Farmer in Maforay village and has a large family of 10. She is a strong leader in the community, and regularly organizes women's activities. She is a seasoned farmer who lost her business during the Ebola crisis as well as several extended family members. She refuses to give up despite loosing a lifetime of work, and organized a large group of other women who similarly had prospered before the crisis, lost everything but now will not give up. All members are currently trapped in a cycle of subsistence and take extremely high-interest loans for poor quality inputs during planting time. Two members of the group are single mothers and are farming as sole providers for their children: Baromi (4th from right, with her child Isata) and Zainab (5th from left with her child Alimamy). A no-interest Kiva loan will therefore enable this group of determined women to get back on their feet and back in business.
