Amistad De Chipop Group's story

Many of the women who participate in the "Microcredit Plus" program of Puente de Amistad from a young age began to perform various trades that later became profitable businesses. This is how Claudia has lived 28 years. She is a Kaqchikel Mayan woman who lives in a rural area of the Department of Sololá. Claudia is a married woman and mother of 3 children (6, 7, 9). The older children attend 1st and 3rd grades. She visualizes a prosperous future for her children. She is an example of perseverance by having a varied agricultural business of flowers, beans, corn, and avocado. Claudia wants to invest the 4th Kiva loan to open a place where she will offer a variety of products for the end of the year parties. She will buy typical clothes, toys, and kitchen accessories.

Claudia and six other women from the "Friendship of Chipop" Community Bridge attended up to the first grades of school. Despite the lack of schooling, they have advanced thanks to small agricultural businesses, textiles, and animal husbandry. The women are very benefitted by monthly training where they learn about business, health, family, and women.

Claudia indicates that issues about avoiding over-indebtedness and good investment have supported her to bring her business to success. A facilitator speaks to women in their Mayan language, and they understand more through images, figures, and games.

The women appreciate the generosity of Kiva lenders. Thank you to each one of you!
