A loan helped to buy seeds and insecticide.

Benkadi Group's story

Yaranga is a market gardner from Mali. He is the one who is holding the rope [in the photo]. He is 42 years old and a father of six children, of whom five are in school. For 20 years, he has practiced market gardening in his native village and grows cabbage, tomatoes, okra, onions, etc.

Yaranga is a parter with RMCR, and this allows him to buy more seeds, fertilizer, and insecticides.

His wife is a housekeeper, and after she finishes this work, she sells vegetables from the harvest in the small village market. Each growing cycle for the fields is four to six months. The vegetables are sold at wholesale and at retail in the local market.

His earnings have increased a lot and an estimated profit is 200,000 francs CFA. Yaranga uses his profits to take care of his family, educate his children, and improve their diet.

The cost of water is significant, and this hinders his ability to expand. He plans to dig a large-diameter well in his fields, so that he can irrigate his crops and meet the needs of his community.
