A loan helped to buy more African cloth fabric.
Irene's story
Irene is 24 years old and lives in the town of Zana in the Abaita Ababiri region of Uganda. For the past 3 years, Irene has been working hard to manage her tailoring business, where she sews and sells African fabric clothing.
To help expand her business, Irene has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more African cloth fabric, and will help Irene to generate greater profits. Irene will be able to realize more profits and therefore she will be able to serve her home's needs, hence improving on their standard of living. Irene hopes that in the future she will be able to become a top fashion designer.
Irene is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
