Ventana Al Futuro Group's story
This community bank is named Ventana al Futuro and it is made up of 19 persevering members from the community of Pitrufquen, 30 Km. from the city of Temuco. They work in different independent businesses, mainly selling cheese, clothing, firewood, catering; making and selling whole grain bread, sopaipillas and tayloring shops. The member interviewed was Marisol, the president of this group. In the picture she is in the first row, fourth from the left. She is wearing gray jeans and a printed shirt. She sells clothes for women in particular, and by request, for men and children. She sells clothes from her house to neighbors and other contacts. She travels frequently to Santiago to buy merchandise. Marisol will invest this loan in fall-winter clothing. Her dream is to have a store in the city's downtown. Her motivations are her sons of 22, 20 and 14, for whose studies she pays. For Marisol, Fondo Esperanza has been very important in her business, because she did not have any problems getting the loans. In addition, the entrepenurial education she has received has been very useful for her in regards to managing her money. Temuco is the capital of the Araucania region. The city is located at 670 kilometers south of Santiago (Chile's Capital) and has a number of lake beaches and very atractive native flora and fauna. It's worth mentioning that in this region live 50% of the Mapuche indigenous people of the country. Even though this area was damaged by the recent earthquake that affected Chile, this community bank did not suffer major damage because of it.
