A loan helped to buy sacks of sugar, salt and rice.

Pricilla's story

Pricilla is 18 years old and lives in the town of Namutumba in the Iganga region of Uganda. For the past 2 years, Pricilla has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells sugar, salt, soap, rice, maize flour.

To help expand her business, Pricilla has requested a loan of 1,300,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy sacks of sugar, salt and rice, and will help Pricilla to generate greater profits. Pricilla will be in a position to afford basic needs, cater for her family, and improve on her standard of living from the increased profits and expanded business. Pricilla hopes that, in the future, she will be able to expand to a wholesale shop.

Pricilla is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
