Shamim's Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

Shamim's Group's story

Shamim's group is comprised of 2 hard-working women. Shamim is 21 years old and lives in the town of Namutumba in the Iganga region of Uganda. For the past 3 years, Shamim has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells sugar, salt, soap, rice, maize flour.

To help expand her business, Shamim has requested a share of 3,500,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy sacks of sugar, salt and rice, and will help Shamim to generate greater profits and business will expand therefore, Shamim will be able to meet the basic necessities at home, thereby improving on their standard of living. Shamim hopes that, in the future, she will be able to buy land and rear cattle.

Shamim is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
