Allen's story

Allen is twenty-two years old and she lives in the town of Entebbe in the Abaita Ababiri region of Uganda. She has three children, who are all currently in school. For the past three years, Allen has been working hard to manage her catering business, which sells fast food.

To help expand her business, Allen has requested a loan of 1,200,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more cassava, baking flour, cooking oil, and other items to support the business. It will also help Allen generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living by providing them enough food and covering more of their basic needs. Allen hopes that in the future she will be able to own a big restaurant in town.

Allen is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
