Sector Sion Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy 3 looms and a large quantity of thread.

Sector Sion Group's story

One woman empowered through Friendship Bridge means that an average of 6 other people benefit (family, employees and community members). Agustina, a 39-year-old divorced mother of a 17 year old son, separated from her husband 15 years ago. Agustina has a traditional textile business. She has 7 wooden floor looms and employs 7 people who are able to support their own families. She is able to deliver 12 traditional woven wrap around tube skirts called “cortes” each week. Agustina is requesting a KIVA loan to buy 3 looms and a large quantity of thread.

Women who participate in the Friendship Bridge “Microcredit Plus” program (loans, education, health care) have little or no formal education. Agustina and the 7 other Maya K’iche ladies in her Trust Bank, called “Sector Sion”, have none. They live in a rural area in the department/state of Quiche. However, they understand the tremendous value of a good education and work hard so that their children can go to school. They learn a great deal in their monthly educational trainings, when a Facilitator shares relevant information with them. Topics are drawn from 4 areas: business, family, health, women. Agustina shares,” I have learned how to improve and grow my business, avoid over indebtedness, make prompt loan payments and about being responsible.” She is an excellent role model and was elected President of her Trust Bank!

These women send their gratitude to KIVA investors from all parts of the world. Thank you!
