Victorias De Sumpango Group's story

Leidy, 30, is a very busy mother of 2 children (9 and 14). She divorced her husband seven years ago and now is completely responsible for her family. Leidy has a high school diploma that makes her the perfect choice to be secretary of her Friendship Bridge Trust Bank called “Victoriosas de Sumpango”. Three years ago, she built a home where she is able to live independently with her children. She has several businesses including a vegetable stand in the terminal in Guatemala City. Leidy also sells sweaters and ornate aprons. She is currently requesting her 1st Kiva loan to buy the latest styles of sweaters and aprons.

Leidy is a survivor of domestic violence and has learned a great deal in her monthly educational trainings about this topic. She has learned to value her rights, build self esteem and learn about women’s rights/roles. Other topics include health, hygiene, nutrition and effective business management tools. Every other month, she has access to basic health care services. Friendship Bridge calls this effective combination of loans, education and health care services Microcredit Plus.

There are 7 ladies in the trust bank who are eager to invest in their businesses that include the sales of women’s clothing, personal care products, and vegetables. They are most appreciative to Kiva investors from all parts of the world who fund their loans. Thank you!
