San Juan Los Llanos Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy chickens and pigs to fatten up!

San Juan Los Llanos Group's story

Many of the ladies who participate in the Friendship Bridge “Microcredit Plus” program (loans, education, health care) have more than one business. This is the case with Catarina, a young 28-year-old single Maya K’iche woman. She raises animals and also embroiders traditional colorful blouses called “huipiles”. Catarina shares, “Thanks to the income from my businesses, I am able to cover my expenses. Also, I can help my parents with their expenses.”

After careful planning, Catarina is requesting her second Kiva loan to invest in her animal husbandry business. With a Kiva loan, she plans to buy chickens and pigs to fatten up as she wants to be ready for upcoming holidays and parties.

Catarina and seven friends belong to the Trust Bank “San Juan Los Llanos” located in a rural area in the department/state of Quiche. She looks forward to the monthly meetings when a facilitator shares information drawn from four topics: business, health, family, women. Catarina shares, “All of the topics are important as we are learn about new information. Our facilitator speaks our Maya K’iche language and uses pictures and games to share the information. It’s a lot of fun to share experiences.” Every other month, the ladies have access to health care services. This combination of loans, education and health care is called “Microcredit Plus”.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for learning about these women and for funding their much appreciated loans!
