Sanidad Divina Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy high quality fabric, as well as chickens and turkeys.

Sanidad Divina Group's story

The fabrication of colorful Maya textiles is an art that is admired and appreciated by the indigenous people, as well as those who live outside of the country. It is woven on backstrap or floor looms and often embroidered by hand. Recent styles feature sparkly rhinestones and beads. This is the business of 46-year-old Maria, President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank, Sanidad Divina. She lives in the department/state of Quiche. She has no formal education but understands its importance. Together with her husband, Maria is raising nine children who are all over the age of 7. Two are currently in primary school. Her husband is a farmer and grows peaches, pomegranates, corn and beans. His income is not enough to support the family, especially since Guatemala has experienced a drought in the past four years. To create more income, Maria raises animals and also embroiders traditional blouses of the area. She is requesting her second Kiva loan to buy high quality fabric, as well as chickens and turkeys.

There are seven ladies in the Trust Bank who meet monthly to make loan payments and participate in educational training. They learn about effective business practices, family matters, women’s issues and health. Every other month, the women have access to health care services. Friendship Bridge calls the combination of loans, education and health care, Microcredit Plus.

These women send their gratitude to Kiva lenderrs from all parts of the world! Thank you to each of you!
