Monterrey Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to increase the inventory of the business and buy personal and cleaning products on offer.

Monterrey Group's story

One of the biggest tourist attractions in the coastal area of the Department (state) of Retalhuleu is the archaeological site Takalik Abaj, which is an important site of the Mayan preclassic. Here live eight women who form the Community Bank of Friendship Bridge, "Monterrey". They hope to grow their business such as convenience stores, and selling snacks such as meat tortillas (chicken, pork), carts of fries, fruit, and household products. The goal of these women is to work hard to alleviate the poverty of their families. They apply for the first Kiva loan to increase capital.

One member, who has a Bilingual Secretary certificate, is Maria, 33 years old. She is dedicated to the sale of personal and household products. She is requesting this loan to increase the business inventory and buy products on offer. She shares, "I opened the business a few years ago. The purpose has been to help my husband with household expenses and provide a good life for my 3 girls (3 to 8 years). With the business earnings I can cover basic expenses from home and my daughters can receive formal education."

Thanks to the support of Kiva and Puente de Amistad [Friendship Bridge] lenders, women like María have access to training, health care services and small loans, through the Microcredit Plus program. With this support they hope to have a brighter future with empowerment.

Thank you for your input, Kiva lenders.
