Monika's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy sacks of beans and millet for her produce store.

Monika's story

Monika is 24 years old and lives in the town of Lira in the Lira region of Uganda. She is married and has two children, one of whom is currently in school. For the past two years, Monika has been working hard to manage her produce store, where she sells food products like sim sim and beans.

To help expand her business, Monika has requested a loan of 500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy sacks of beans and millet, which will help Monika generate greater profits. This will allow her to provide her family with clothing and food.

Monika hopes that in the future she will be able to start a goat business.

Monika is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
