Mele's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy pandanus for her weaving business and also mulberry for her tapa making business.

Mele's story

Mele is 46 years old. She is a mother of eight, and the wife of a prison officer. Four of her children are still at school. They all live in their own home.

Mele runs a weaving and tapa making business alone from home. She weaves taovala, mats and also fihu. She also joins a weekly tapa making group in their village. Mele sells soft tapa and also decorates tapa on her own. Some women pay her to decorate their tapa.

When her products are ready, she sells them at the local market, and also exports them overseas.

Mele started her business when she first had children, because, even though her husband is working, his wages cannot pay for all their needs. Mele's business helps a lot with their living expenses, including their kids' school fees - and so she is fully committed to running her business.

She will continue to develop her business, because she has witnessed the benefits her family receives from it. She is applying for a loan in order to buy more pandanus and also mulberry for her business.
