Mariam's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to purchase tops, trousers and skirts.

Mariam's story

Mariam is 20 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Makindye region of Uganda. She is married and has two children with one of them currently in school. For the past 3 years, Mariam has been working hard to manage her Boutique, which sells all kinds of adult clothes.

To help expand her business, Mariam has requested a loan of 1200000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase tops, trousers and skirts to sell, and will help Mariam to generate greater profits and manage to pay some of the house bills, pay school fees for her kids and cover basic needs for the family. Mariam hopes that in the future she will be able to open up another whole sale boutique business that sells all adult and kids clothes in town.

Mariam is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
