Bellavista Group's story

This community bank is named Bellavista and is made up of 16 female members and one male member, located in the city of Temuco. They are mainly dedicated to weaving and selling crocheted items, chopsticks, prepared dishes such as stuffed potatoes, empanadas and pastries. The interviewed member was Mercedes who is the treasurer of this community bank. In the photo, she is located in the second row and is the fourth woman from left to right. She is dedicated to baking (cakes, pastries, among other items), and sells mostly from orders and also repairs clothes in her house. She will invest this loan in a sewing machine since the one she has is very old and fails a lot. Her motivation is to achieve economic stability and her dream is to have an established bakery in the center of the city. Mercedes commented that the entrepreneurial education received from Fondo Esperanza has been very useful in terms of the calculations of profit and investment because she now feels more secure knowing in advance how much capital is needed to be able to pay her expenses. Temuco is the capital of the Araucania region. The city is located 670 kilometers to the south of Santiago (the capital of Chile) and has a number of lake resorts and striking native flora and fauna. Note that in this region live 50% of the mapuches, an indigenous people existing in our country. Although this area was damaged by the recent earthquake that affected Chile, this community bank did not suffer grave effects.
