A loan helped to purchase another quality breed of dairy animal.

Faith's story

Smallholder farmers in Kenya face numerous challenges starting with lack of capital and poor living conditions. Faith (pictured in her simple house) is a smallholder farmer who lives and works in Chuka, a remote town in the Central region of Kenya. She passionately loves dairy farming, and taking care of her animals gives her great joy. Despite her old age, 65 years, she normally wakes up very early to accomplish her daily chores.

Although this humble mum has been making profits by selling milk to her neighbors and to the local market, she is faced with the challenge of meeting the demand. Faith is known for having the best quality milk. Through word of mouth, customers have been flocking to her farm for milk. Faith is seeking a loan to buy another quality dairy animal that will produce milk that is high in nutrients so she will be able to satisfy the demand. Through the loan, she will buy a dairy animal that will produce more milk. This will help to fully satisfy the demand.

Through Juhudi Kilimo, Faith attended training sessions and was taught the best financial management skills. This will help her save more money to fully repay the loan. The challenges that she has been through make her deserving of the loan request.
