Penelope's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy more materials for her kiekie-making business.

Penelope's story

This is Penelope. She is a 31-year-old single mother of five, from the Eastern area of Tongatapu. She is living with her kids under the roof of her parents. She has been raising her kids on her own since the day they were born.

Her business is handicrafts, where she specifically makes kiekie [an ornamental girdle worn by Tongan women] from hibiscus fiber, coconut husk, coconut fiber and also soft tapa. In approximately a week, she is able to make three to four kiekie and then take them to the local market for selling.

She has to do her best in her business because not only her, but most of the women in their village are also making kiekie. Penelope always makes really good-looking kiekie, and her products always sell out.

She is hoping for her children to continue school and have a better life in the future. That is her vision.
