Chicabal Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to invest in the agricultural business and buy seeds and fertilizer.

Chicabal Group's story

Fabiana is a member of the Communal Bank of Puente de Amistad "Chicabal" in the fertile Department / State of Quetzaltenango.

Her husband has a small plot of land where the couple grows potatoes and corn. They take advantage of the winter season to work hard on the crop, to later sell the product in the local market. The couple is working hard to forge better living conditions for their five-year-old child.

Fabiana is requesting the second loan from Kiva to buy more seeds and fertilizer for the agricultural business. She knows that with this product she will have the ability to sow what is necessary and obtain a good harvest.

There are 11 women in this communal bank who are determined to create a better future for themselves and their families. Loans, financed by Kiva lenders, are paramount to success, as are the monthly educational training provided by a Friendship Bridge facilitator. The themes are drawn from four areas: health, family, women, business. The topics focus on planning, budgeting, investment and savings to help them with traditional textile businesses, small farms (corn, potatoes) and chicken raising. Every two months, these women also benefit from having access to health care services.

Thanks to the lenders of Kiva, Fabiana and her partners are strengthening and improving their standard of living.
