Maria Remigia's story
Mrs. Maria is 72 years old and lives in the province of Trujillo, in the department of La Libertad, Perú. She belongs to the “La Perbola II” Community Bank. This member is illiterate as her parents had limited resources and she had to begin working when she was young. She is married and has eight children. Two of the children are economically dependent upon her. María makes prepared food and sells the food from her house every day of the week. In order to prepare her food she buys ingredients such as rice, potatoes, yucca, soup stock, chicken, fish, vegetables, noodles, etc. in the wholesale market. She finds the least expensive prices in the wholesale market, which helps increase her profit. With her first loan of 300.00 new soles, she bought serving dishes to use to begin selling her food. Now, with the next loan of 1,000.00 new soles, she will buy food products such as rice, potatoes, soup stock, chicken, duck, etc. and she will also buy plates and pots. Her dream is to grow her business and begin to sell dinners. In this way she can increase her earnings.
