Egypt's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support
A loan helped urban farmers to build a second hoophouse and purchase the city lots on which our farm is located.
Magnolia Farms is collectively managed by owner/founder, Egypt, and farm production managers, Aliza and Nate. Egypt grew up on a family dairy farm in Southeastern Michigan. Growing up surrounded by life and nature had a huge impact on her. At twelve, her family's farm went out of business. This loss made her realize how important farm life was to her, and that farming was something she wanted to do herself. Over the last decade she has worked on and studied at farms in Michigan, Peru, France and Japan. She currently manages a 1 acre non-profit educational farm and is the mother of four beautiful children. Nate grew up in Lansing and has has lived and worked on small organic farms in Georgia, Kentucky, and Michigan. In addition to farming, Nate coordinates the Garden Project’s Resource Center, where he helps distribute 60,000 plants along with tools and resources to thousands of local gardeners. Aliza hails from the east coast and has lived in Lansing since 2013. She started gardening as a teen and has been hooked ever since. Aliza was raised in a family that struggles with mental illness and addiction. She is deeply interested in the connection between food and mental health and how farming can be used as a tool for healing body, mind and spirit. In addition to farming, Aliza co-manages a school gardening and cooking program for elementary schoolers.
