Flor De Chupol Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy a large quantity of high quality thread for her textile business.

Flor De Chupol Group's story

A distinctive piece of traditional Maya clothing is the colorful and beautifully woven blouse or “huipil”. Each town has its own distinctive pattern or design and color. These textiles treasures often reflects the social, marital, and religious status of the wearer. They contain other significant symbols like the moon, sun, stars, animals and geographical features. They are hand woven on backstrap looms and take between 1-6 months to make.

These are what 28-year-old Juana does along with 3 employees. She is able to deliver 8 “huipiles” each month. She is married with 4 children (9 months-11 years) and her oldest children attend primary school. Juana is requesting her 5th Kiva loan to buy a large quantity of high quality thread.

Juana and 7 other women belong to the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Flor de Chupol” in the department/state of Quiche. They meet monthly to make loan payments and participate in educational trainings, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. Monthly topics cover relevant aspects of their lives and cover one of 4 subjects: business, health, family, women.

Juana shares, “Avoiding over-indebtedness and learning about planning, budgeting, investing has helped me a lot with my own business. And I really appreciate being able to get health exams that is really important so that I can maintain my health.”

Thank you, Kiva investors, for the vital role you play in the lives of Juana and her friends!
